Projects of the Week 10/26/24

Earlier in the week a regular client of mine called me back to reattach a laminate top back onto an old cabinet that she uses in her laundry room. I also installed new sturdy table legs on the other end. I also sanded, primed, and painted her kitchen window sill that had sustain some minor water damage before she had her windows replaced.

A couple new friends of mine, Albert & Mary, who also moved to Tennessee recently reached out to me about going up to Clarksville to look at a few small projects. New flooring, fence/gate repair, and a deck facelift. This is one of their rentals, and it was just vacated earlier this month. The new flooring is on order, so while we wait for it to arrive I started with the removal of all the 1/4 round shoe molding from all around the baseboards, and scraped off the old caulking. Then took up all of the old flooring on the first floor, and discovered some mold form an old leak. I cleaned, scrubbed, treated the mold using a microbial cleaner, and opened the windows to ventilate the house.

A section of their fence, and the gate had sustained damage from some heavy storms that came through Clarksville also. I dis-assemble the effected area, and re-set two posts. I bolted one post into the house using 6 inch concrete lag bolts to provide extra support for the one side of the gate. The post supporting the other side of the gate was a little loose, so I used a fence post mender (wedge) to stiffen it up.

Then finally I replaced a broken up, and rotted deck board. I plan to go back, sand the deck, and apply a coat or two of semi-transparent stain. After I tighten up some areas that are loose.

Projects of the Week 10/19/24

A new client who's in the music industry, and lives in Nashville contacted me about helping him to get his recently purchased home ready to rent. I suggested a few things, including the replacement of all the dated door hardware. I replaced all the knobs, hinges, and installed new hinge door stops on all the doors as well. Including the exterior doors. Many of the doors needed new holes bored to accept the new knobs. The old knobs were at least 60 years old. He also had some mold growing around 8 of his 9 air/heater vents from a leak, so I cleaned & treated the mold, and applied primer with mildewcide. I then applied a white ceiling paint, but he's going to have all the ceilings painted at a later date. I then installed new register covers. We'll also be starting the installation of a new front door after Halloween.

I also applied a 2nd coat of paint on my client Anjie's house trim, and installed new matching flood lights.

Projects of the Week 10/12/24

I was back at my client Anjie's place this past week to work on additional exterior cedar trim around her bay windows. Next was caulking, and then some paint touch up when I return. I also painted a 1st coat on some of house trim at the higher areas that she wasn't able to get at. Those photos will be posted next week after the 2nd coat.

Tammy, another client of ours called me to do some patch work, and painting in preparation to sell their home. I did some drywall repairs, and replaced some door casings around their front door first. I painted all the walls in their office/TV room, and the hall bath, the ceiling in one of the bedrooms, all the trim around the front door, and the exterior jamb/trim around their back door. As well as the wall in the back of 2 built-in shelf units in the living room which were never painted the same color before.

Projects of the Week 10/05/24

I've been working on ongoing projects around my client Anjie's home in Hermitage, and this past week I applied a coat of clear sealant on all of her new cedar siding that I recently installed. She applied the clear coat on the cedar that I wrapped around the posts on her front patio. She also has been painting the exterior trim around the house as well. She wants me to paint the trim that's higher up on the house this coming week.

I also re-visited Loni, a regular client of mine who is still settling into her new home in Franklin. A few weeks ago I re-installed a RO (reverse osmosis) water filtration system that I un-installed from her previous residence, and swapped out old dirty outlet receptacles for nice white new ones. She didn't have enough receptacles the first time, so this time I finished installing the rest of them, and a few new light switches as well.  I also installed new shelving in her kitchen pantry, and a new lock clasp on the attic access door in a closet where her Grandchildren play so they wouldn't be able to go in there.

Then lastly, another regular client of mine Melissa called me back to install a few very unique types of ceiling fan/lights in her new home that her and her family just moved into in Mount Juliet. I've never seen fans like these. They are very lightweight, and do not require a "ceiling fan ready" box in the ceiling, and can easily replace a standard light fixture.

Projects of the Week 09/28/24

This past week a fence job that we had lined up was postponed due to shipment delays, but that allowed me to service a couple of regular clients instead. I installed a new garage entry door the week before. This past week I built & installed a new step/landing in front of the door which also helps support the door threshold.

Another regular client of ours recently moved into a newly built home. She called me a few weeks back to disassemble a trampoline that I had assembled a couple years back when our company first started. This past week she had called me to reassemble the trampoline, which I will be doing soon, but first she asked me to assemble a new Pergola just out her back patio door.

Projects of the Week 09/21/24

This past week was full of many various tasks at a few different locations, and my Nephew has returned to assist for the next few weeks. I took a break from my client in Hermitage's siding and exterior trim project while she makes a few more decisions on materials and colors. Instead I engaged in a couple other tasks for her including a new exterior door on her garage, and then installed shiplap & trim above her fireplace mantle so she could display her guitar.

I also continued with the construction of a wall bump-out for my other client's new electric fireplace insert. I placed blocking behind the plywood for the future installation of her TV mount and wood mantle which will both be installed after the faux stone is installed over the plywood.

Then finally, my regular client Linda in Thompson Station called me back to hang more of her decorative items around the house that they recently moved into.

Projects of the Week 09/14/24

This past week I engaged in some smaller projects, and caught up on some accounting as well. One of the two major projects we worked on was the continuation of the cedar siding project that began the week before.  Cedar siding was added to a small section on the side of my client's porch eve. Her two posts were also wrapped in Western Cedar, then 1 x 4 Cedar trim was installed around the base of each one. Once the painting is complete, the trim around the upper posts will also be installed.

A past client called me in this past week to begin a framing project as well. She has plans for a fireplace insert surrounded by faux stone, and then a mantle above the new fireplace. After some wall patching, I framed in a new wall bump-out, and framed up a base for the new raised fireplace hearth. Next we will install plywood all around the framing that the faux stone will be adhered & fastened to.

Projects of the Week 09/07/24

A repeat past client of ours called me back to replace some old siding of hers that is almost 40 years old, and it showed. Before her roof was replaced about 15 years ago, her house sustained some water damage in various areas that had never been addressed, and this siding I replaced was one of those areas. As well as her new attic vent cover that my client did a great job painting. I'll also be working in other areas around the exterior that sustained water damage in the coming weeks. Mostly just trim and moldings.

This past week I engaged in a few smaller projects not pictured here as well. I also spent a day at my regular client's house in Thompson Station hanging decorative objects, and pictures that she hasn't been able to get around doing since her move a couple months ago.
