Projects of the Week 12/28/24

During the week of Christmas I engaged in a few small tasks. The week before, Bill from The Verdei Group Property Management, a regular client of ours that has given us a large amount of work in the past called me to tackle a small attic door project at his home. I first installed a new jamb & stop using some 1" x 6" material, then cut a section from a full sized slab door to make a small attic door. I used full sized door hardware also that matches the other doors around the house. Then I came back during this past week to paint the door, jamb, and trim.

Bill also asked me to straighten out, and replace some of the ceiling tiles in the garage of a property that The Verdei Group manages in Nashville.

I also returned to our client Anjie's house this past week to continue with her window trim replacement. I had replaced the trim & sill on her 3 entry way windows with Cedar, but the two other windows at the front of her house still needed to be done. I completed one, and will complete the other one the following week, and caulk them both. The 2nd window will be featured in the next Projects of the Week photo album. I also installed a piece of 1/4 round molding that Anjie painted along a large vertical gap between the brick and the wood trim by her front door.

Then lastly, I visited my past client Rebecca who I haven't seen in about 2 years, and she had a short list of a few things for me that included hiding her TV cables, so I used a system that runs them down inside the wall. Then a few other things including changing a light bulb, installed a showerhead filter, changed her air filter, and removed an old light fixture. (some items not pictured)

Projects of the Week 12/21/24

I finished up with the painting on the main level of Lisa's house as it slowly becomes ready for move in time. I also removed all the doors on the main level and downstairs in preparation for the installation of new doors which will be delivered soon. Then after the new doors & casings are installed I will continue painting them, and the entire downstairs.

Projects of the Week 12/14/24

This past week I worked primarily at Lisa's house where I started paint prep the week before. I continued this week to mask the flooring at the baseboards & 1/4 round shoe molding, the exterior door glass, the plantation blinds, and anywhere else that needed masking in preparation for painting. I then proceeded to paint all the trim throughout the house, except for the interior door casing trim since I had removed it all in preparation for the replacement of all the interior doors. The new prehung doors will be delivered around Christmas. I also began the preparation for the wall painting phase by removing all the switch & outlat cover plates, and bathroom accessories

I also installed a new Schlage Encode smart lock set on the back door that matches the one I put in earlier this year at the front door.

Projects of the Week 12/07/24

Not a whole bunch was done this past week, but I started to prepare two client's homes for a couple paint projects. At my friend & client Lisa's house I moved her thermostat over from the middle of the wall closer to the light switch so it could be reached easier. I then patched the holes that I needed to make to move it. I also removed her door casings in preparation for the replacement of all her interior doors so I could finish the wall smoother before I paint it. I also removed a couple of light fixtures in Lisa's Master Bathroom to prepare for paint, and I will be adding a light box in the wall for the left side light fixture which wasn't done by the original Contractor.

I also was called out by new clients in Old Hickory to remove some old TV mounts in the home they had recently purchased, and eliminated the outlet that was in the middle of the wall for a TV that used to be there. I then moved the outlet up above the fireplace mantle which will be the new location of their TV once the wall is finished, and painted. This job may not continue until after Christmas, and I'll be posting up photos later for this project.

Projects of the Week 11/30/24

It was a fairly busy week taking on some smaller projects. It started in Nashville for a regular client where I painted the main entry door of her unit at The Midtown Loft.

Our long time client Linda who lives in Thompson Station called me back to hang some more framed and decorative items in the house they've recently moved into.

Anjie, our client in Hermitage finished painting the new shutters that I assembled last week, and I went back to get those installed.

At the end of the week I completed a few tasks for Maria, a brand new client of ours who lives in Hendersonville. I assembled her new wicker patio furniture, hung two of her mirrors, and installed a new towel bar in her Master Bedroom.

Projects of the Week 11/23/24

A couple weeks ago in Franklin, TN, my friend J'Anna who's in the process of moving into a new house just down the block from her current home took a couple pics of me installing her living room TV in her new living room. After I took it down at the old location, and drove it to the new place. I also re-hung 1 of 2 TVs in one of the bedrooms (not pictured here). This past week I went back and re-hung the TV in her Master Bedroom, and the 2nd TV in the other bedroom that I installed one the last time I was there. I also assembled a new kitchen hutch for her as well.

The same day I helped J'Anna I went to Loni's house. She's another client of ours who lives in the same neighborhood as J'Anna. She asked me to install a new drapery rod, and hang her drapes. I also installed a new ceiling fan for her, hung a painting, and installed a new Google Nest thermostat (not pictured here).

Later in the week I went back to our client Anjie's house to assemble the new cedar shutters that I will be installing on the front of her house next week after she paints them the color she wants.

At the end of the week I went back to my old neighborhood, Walton's Grove where I serviced two new clients. For one of them I installed a new hanging garage storage rack. The other client I had gone to a couple weeks before to patch some holes above her vanity that were made when they removed their old mirror. This time I installed a new hanging mirror after they had the bathroom painted.

Projects of the Week 11/16/24

This past week was a busy painting week, but first installed the cedar trim around my client Anjie's front door in Hermitage. Anjie volunteered to put the coat of clear wood sealer on it.

Shari, another regular client of ours, and the owner of 3rd Coast Salts Spa in Mount Juliet called me back to tackle a couple of small tasks at the spa. I changed a couple bulbs, and placed a couple new security cameras. Inside and out.

In the middle of the week I went back to John's place in Nashville to work on the new front door project to paint the door, and the trim. First I caulked all the trim and filled the nail/screw holes on Tuesday, as well as applied a scratch coat of drywall mud on the patch above the door on the inside. Then came back Wednesday to mask & paint everything, and applied a 2nd coat of drywall mud over the patch above the door. I'm waiting on a lumber yard to find a match for the old wide door casing so I can install it around the inside of the new door. Once they find a match, I'll install it, and finish that out as well.

I returned to Albert & Mary's rental property in Clarksville at the end of the week to caulk the 1/4 round molding, fill the nail holes, mask the floor, and then paint the baseboard & the 1/4 round.

Projects of the Week 11/09/24

This past week I returned to Albert & Mary's rental in Clarksville to finish up the flooring install, which involved a few crazy cuts in order to fit under the door casings and jambs. I'm just about done with the 1/4 round molding install as well. When I return again, I'll finish installing the 1/4 round. Then I'll caulk the joints, and fill nail holes. After that I'll paint both the baseboards and 1/4 round molding.

John, a new regular client that lives in Nashville decided that he wanted his over 60 year old front door replaced. The old door was about 5 inches taller, and 2 inches deeper than the new one that he chose. The lath & plaster walls are thicker than most of the walls of newer homes, and they used a door with a deeper door jamb. Therefore I had to get creative and add extra material above the door to fill it in, and than added new exterior trim to fill in the depth and the height. I have to go back and finish out the wall on the inside also. Then paint the door and all the trim, inside and out.

I also re-visited my regular client, Ashley's fireplace project where here and her sister did a great job installing the faux stone face. I installed the new mantle, and mounted her TV. I also re-installed her baseboard. She plans to finish the hearth after the new stone is installed on the top of the hearth.

Projects of the Week 11/02/24

During this week I stayed a couple nights in Clarksville where I continued on with the new flooring project for friends Albert & Mary in their rental property. They opted for a high quality antimicrobial underlayment to detour moisture and to help prevent the growth mold which I had to treat in a few areas. Then I proceeded to lay down the new Mohawk PureTech (PVC free) laminate flooring. After I completed one long run  of flooring, I then covered it with Ram Board floor protectant, and moved the tools over on to it. Cutting the flooring close to the work area helped with speed and efficiency.

Closer to home I worked on skimming a couple coats of drywall mud over some tears that occurred when our clients removed a bathroom mirror that was adhered to the wall. The have a painting company that will finish it out when they come to paint their house later.

I also re-visited Anjie's house where I'm getting ready to install cedar trim around her front door. I installed the backing where the cedar will be placed over, and sealed the entire perimeter with exterior caulking. She planned to do some painting all around the door also before the cedar is installed later.
