Photo Archive January/February 2025

I finished up with the painting on the main level of Lisa's house as it slowly becomes ready for move in time. I also removed all the doors on the main level and downstairs in preparation for the installation of new doors which will be delivered soon. Then after the new doors & casings are installed I will continue painting them, and the entire downstairs.

Projects of the Week 02/15/25

This past week our regular client Linda in Thompson Station asked me to hang more of her decorative items that she's been slowly unpacking since her move late last year.

Then later in the week The Verdei Group asked me to install 3 new pet stations around a property in Nashville that they recently started managing named Midtown Lofts

Another regular client of ours in Franklin who recently had their house painted asked me to re-mount a TV that I had mounted last year. The painters removed the mount for a better quality paint job.

I've been returning to a job in Nashville a few times to finish the wall around a new door that I installed late last year. It required multiple drywall mud coats. My client John is having some remodeling done to his house, so after I installed the door I had to wait for a break in the remodeling project to get the wall around his new door finished, and install the new door casing. The previous week I skimmed out the first scratch coat of drywall mud to fill in most of the recess around the door, and this week I skimmed the final coats and primed it using PVA drywall primer. I then installed the new casing, filled the holes, and caulked all around. Next I will paint the casing and the wall around it. The completed photos will be posted in next week's album.

Projects of the Week 02/08/25

After completing the sign for The Verdei Group Property Management this past week, I met with them and decided on a location just outside the community that they now manage in Donaldson, TN. I also constructed a 2nd sign for placement in the near future at another property that they manage, or will manage soon.

After shortening Lisa's headboard to fit under the window this past week, and assembling the rest of the bed frame, she then had me assemble her metal box spring. Then Lisa's Bifold closet doors came in, so I proceeded to get a couple coats of paint on those, installed them, and then installed her elegant new knobs on them.

A couple of clients from Nashville called me for a couple of projects. One wanted me to tackle a few small items including 2 special types of shelves that you can rest framed pictures or paintings on instead of hanging them.

The other client of ours who I installed a new front door for back in November (2024) is having some major remodeling done by a local General Contractor, so I stepped out of the way before I could complete the finish work around the perimeter of the door inside. The original plan was to restore the over 60 year old door casing, but it was going to take far more work than we determined it was worth, so I'm going to find a casing that closely matches instead. First I have to do some wall finishing around the door with a few applications of drywall mud, and sand in between coats. Then prime with PVA Primer. At that point I will install the new casing, and then finally paint everything. The wall, casing, and the door (inside).

Projects of the Week 02/01/25

This past week the family at The Verdei Group Property Management called me to construct a couple of new signs for them that I will later be setting into the ground at a couple new communities that they are now managing. This is the first one of two.

Also pictured here is the shortened bed frame/headboard that I cut down the week before for my client Lisa at her house in Old Hickory. She wanted it to sit with the headboard just below the window casing, so I need to cut out 7 inches from the main support legs. Which I then mended back together using 1/2" wooden dowels through the center with plenty of wood glue, and then added mending braces in the back. I also replaced a piece of trim around the air return that I had to remove when I relocated her thermostat. I then filled and caulked the trim piece before painting it. Lisa also asked me to fill the gaps in certain areas below the door casings & jambs. I also cleaned up old paint splatter from her Guest Bathroom tile floor that was left by the original painters using a special paint removal product.

A couple in the Walton's Grove community in Mount Juliet who are regular clients of ours called me back to evaluate their tub filler faucet that was constantly leaking, and not just a little bit. I tried a couple of things right away, but determined that the valve stem assembly simply needed to be replaced. I then drove to Ferguson's Supply in Hendersonville and picked up the new part for them. Replacing the part was all it needed, and the leak stopped.

Teresa, another regular client of ours in Hermitage who I replaced a kitchen light fixture for called me back out to evaluate her leaky kitchen faucet. It was determined that the entire faucet needed to be replaced, since it was fairly old. She is now much happier with her new faucet, and hand sprayer.

Projects of the Week 01/25/25

Along with a few smaller tasks this past week that are not pictured here, I finished up with the painting of Lisa's doors, jambs and casings for the Guest Bedroom, Guest Bathroom, kitchen pantry, and Master Bathroom downstairs. Including two coats of paint on the doors using a foam roller to give them a smooth finish. We're still waiting for the delivery of the 36" Bi-fold doors for the Guest Bedroom.

Lisa also asked me to modify her 52" headboard in her Guest Bedroom to fit under her window which is 45". I cut out a 7" section out of the main support legs. This following week I will mend the cut pieces using wood glue with a wooden dowel, and mending braces. Then assemble the rest of the bed frame.

Projects of the Week 01/18/25

The painting continued at Lisa's house last week with the completion of the Master Bathroom downstairs, as well as the stairs and hallway. Lisa also wanted me to do something with the her 3 different access doors downstairs as well. The week before I installed new door hardware on her water heater access door. This past week I eliminated the small sump pump access door & trim, and replaced it with a paintable flush panel. After I repaired and finished the wall around the opening. She was also unhappy with the crawl space access door which is right in the middle of the bedroom above the wall bump out. She plans to place decorative items there, so she wanted a door that was more discrete, and flush with the wall. I removed the casing around it, skimmed 2 coats of drywall mud around the perimeter (sanding in between coats), and used a nice piece of 3/4" sanded plywood to create a new cabinet style door. Then used a set of soft close recessed cabinet hinges. After that I painted the door & wall around it, then a recessed pull knob.

The rest of the door order came in at Lisa's also, and I proceeded to get a couple of those installed for the Guest Bedroom & bathroom, as well as the casing around them. I also started the paint prep on them by filling all the brad nail holes.

At the end of the week I was contacted by The Verdei Group. A Property Management group out of Franklin, TN that I've done a ton of work for in the past. They have a client that owns a few properties, and she wanted to get this one in Franklin ready to rent. It needed all the trim on the first level re-painted. At first we thought perhaps just some touch ups could be done, but the painters before me didn't do a great job, and all the trim needed a second coat. Plus there were places where the wall paint ran down onto the baseboards. There were also a couple areas where the wall needed touch up as well. Before that I had to caulk many areas as well before I painted.

Projects of the Week 01/11/25

I started this past week in Hermitage at Anjie's installing the Cedar trim around the other front window. I completed the first one the week before.

I then returned to Lisa's house in Old Hickory to begin the new door & casing installation. Lowe's messed up the order, so we only had about half of them to install. The remainder of the order will be delivered around January 16th. I first removed the old doors downstairs, and installed the new pre-hung doors. Including a set of double doors for the closet. I finished painting the main level (upstairs) the week before, and the plan is to paint the entire downstairs (Master Bedroom) as well after the doors are installed. I also removed bathroom accessories, light fixtures, and the outlet & switch cover plates. When the rest of the door order arrives, I'll install the doors on the main level, and also paint those, along with the trim as well.

I also scheduled Linda in this past week. A long time regular client of ours in Thompson Station. I was there to help her take down her Christmas decorations, inside & out, and hang a few items in both of her Granddaughter's rooms as well. First Linda asked me to put lights ON her wooden Christmas tree before she stored it away for next year. I then proceeded to take down large lengths of garland in various places, and place large storage bins onto shelves in her storage room.

Projects of the Week (Front Door Project) 02/22/25

The only major project that I worked on this past week due to the frigid temps was finishing this front door for my our client in Nashville. I had begun the project back in November, 2024, but he had started an emergency remodeling project before I could finish it. His refrigerator line was leaking so he decided to start his kitchen remodel sooner than he had planned due to the leak, so I returned when there was a break in that project while they were waiting for the cabinet delivery.

John  decided that he wanted his over 60 year old front door replaced. The old door was about 5 inches taller, and 2 inches deeper than the new one that he chose. The lath & plaster walls are thicker than most of the walls of newer homes, and they used a door with a deeper door jamb. Therefore I had to get creative and add extra material above the door to fill it in, and than added new exterior trim to fill in the depth and the height. I then proceeded to paint the trim and the door (outside).

I had to do some wall finishing around the door with a few applications of drywall mud, and sand in between coats. Before that I adhered the old wood paneling to the plaster substrate beneath so it wasn't loose. Then after the drywall mud skim, and final sanding I used PVA Primer to cover the drywall mud. I then installed new casing, and then finally painted everything. The wall, casing, and the door (inside).
