Projects of the Week 08/22/26

Kevin, a close friend of my brother Dave and I ran into a problem with his contractor and asked us to help him to get some projects completed around his home to prepare for putting it on the market. We plan to renovate 4 bedrooms and the kitchen, along with a few smaller projects spanning over 8 to 10 weeks which started in mid July. Along with some work in both his attached and detached garages as well.

I returned to Kevin's house last week to continue with after moving into my new place. I didn't post any "Projects of the Week" posts the last couple week, but I created numerous reels showing the demo prep and demolition of my friend Kevin's kitchen, and a few other tasks. I cut away some of the drywall to prepare for the rough in plumbing and electrical, removed the remaining flooring, unboxed all the new cabinetry, then removed the doors and drawers and put them in a safe place for later. I also ran the new line for the ice maker box in the new fridge location. I will also be doing addition rough plumbing work in the coming weeks, and electrical needs to be done as well leading up to the wall finishing, and cabinet installation. Then the new flooring goes in.

Projects of the Week 08/01/26

Kevin, a close friend of my brother Dave and I ran into a problem with his contractor and asked us to help him to get some projects completed around his home to prepare for putting it on the market. We plan to renovate 4 bedrooms and the kitchen, along with a few smaller projects spanning over 8 to 10 weeks which started in mid July. I engaged in so many tasks this past week that it is impossible to post up all the photos and clips from the week since Instagram limits me to only 20 pics or clips. That's why I started posting reels almost every day so people can see the more detailed project captures through the week.

Here's the summary of the projects I worked on this past week: I finished painting bedroom 1, painted & rehung the doors for BR1 (after cutting 2" off the bottom) and the coat closet in the entryway, installed new shelf in BR1 closet, painted the coat closet (including shelf), removed laminate flooring in family room to prepare for new flooring, and removed the wallpaper from the laundry room using a perforator, and a power steamer. I also did some minor wall repairs after the wallpaper was removed. Then I painted the entire hall pantry closet including the shelving.

Projects of the Week 07/25/26

Kevin, a close friend of my brother Dave and I ran into a problem with his contractor and asked us to help him to get some projects completed around his home to prepare for putting it on the market. We plan to renovate 4 bedrooms and the kitchen, along with a few smaller projects spanning over the next 8 to 10 weeks. Along with some work in both his attached and detached garages as well.

I skipped my weekly post last week because I didn't do a whole lot of work. Mostly I was just settling into my new living arrangements here in Clayton at Kevin and his family's home, and assembling supplies and materials to get started on projects during my 10 week stay here.

The plan is to complete one bedroom at a time since 3 of the 4 rooms are occupied, including the one I'm staying in. Once bedroom 1 is complete, I'll move into that room, and start the renovation of the room I'm currently staying in. By that time the kitchen cabinets will be delivered, and I will change gears and start on the kitchen demolition, but that's after I return to my house for about 10 days. I have to move out of my place by August 11th, so I'll be there to move my stuff, and do any small repairs to the place, and settle into my new place in Mt Juliet, TN.

I started bedroom 1 by removing decals from the walls that were placed there years ago when Kevin and his wife's children were younger. Then I removed the wallpaper band from the top of all walls, floated and sanded joint compound around the area where a new wall was put up and window installed a few years ago. This room used to be a covered patio, and a couple of the walls are a hard cement type wall. Then I used primer to cover all the old paint, and drywall mud float areas. The subfloor needed repairs also, and after I did that I installed new 5/4 T&G plywood over the top to raise the subfloor up to the same height as the subfloor throughout the rest of the house. Lastly, I installed a piece of molding at the joint above the window that matches the casing around the window. This same casing will go around the new bedroom and by-pass closet door later after those are installed.

Their Boxer "Hank" has been keeping me company everyday as well. He always wants to play, and follows me around until I do.

Projects of the Week 07/11/26

I was back over to Nicole's in Spring Hill, TN this past week. I've done a few projects for her including staining her deck, and constructed on arbor on her deck as well. She asked me to install some molding around the perimeter of her 1/2 bathroom where the wallpaper transitions to the ceiling. She had already pre-painted the molding to match the other trim before I installed it.

The Verdei Group, who manage the Colony House property in Franklin, TN asked me to paint new unit number/letters on the parking spots for the corresponding units. There are 6 buildings lettered A through F, and I started at the "A" building this past week. I used Sherwin Williams "Pro-Park" waterborne paint. I started by using a template to paint the black rectangles. I was supposed to keep moving on to the other buildings, but the weather did not cooperate, so I took some needed time off to prepare for a project in California until the weather allows me to continue which will probably be in August.

I was hoping to have the parking spaces completed before I leave for California this coming week, but it will have to wait until the rainy season subsides some in August. I'm going to CA to help a friend of mine and my brother Dave's to get their home ready to sell, and when I return after a couple of weeks I pack for my move to another place in Mt Juliet, TN. Then back to California again for another couple weeks to wrap up the various projects for our friend Kevin.

Projects of the Week 07/04/26

The week started out with a small paint project in Franklin, TN who is a referral from Cecelia, a regular client who I've done a few projects for. This paint project was a gift to their daughter, and I used my favorite paint, "Emerald" by Sherwin Williams. A super durable and luxurious paint with unbeatable coverage. I was able to get two coats on the walls with just one gallon. "Duration" by Sherwin Williams is also an excellent choice.

I did a few other smaller tasks this past week, but at the end of the week I was back at my friend and client Lisa's place to knock out a couple items on her "to-do list". These items included the installation of a Larson retractable screen door, a couple of outdoor LED lights, and my favorite task of the week. I was honored for the chance to mount her new star spangled banner just before we celebrate Independence Day. Happy 250th birthday, and God bless America!
