Projects of the Week 10/05/24

I've been working on ongoing projects around my client Anjie's home in Hermitage, and this past week I applied a coat of clear sealant on all of her new cedar siding that I recently installed. She applied the clear coat on the cedar that I wrapped around the posts on her front patio. She also has been painting the exterior trim around the house as well. She wants me to paint the trim that's higher up on the house this coming week.

I also re-visited Loni, a regular client of mine who is still settling into her new home in Franklin. A few weeks ago I re-installed a RO (reverse osmosis) water filtration system that I un-installed from her previous residence, and swapped out old dirty outlet receptacles for nice white new ones. She didn't have enough receptacles the first time, so this time I finished installing the rest of them, and a few new light switches as well.  I also installed new shelving in her kitchen pantry, and a new lock clasp on the attic access door in a closet where her Grandchildren play so they wouldn't be able to go in there.

Then lastly, another regular client of mine Melissa called me back to install a few very unique types of ceiling fan/lights in her new home that her and her family just moved into in Mount Juliet. I've never seen fans like these. They are very lightweight, and do not require a "ceiling fan ready" box in the ceiling, and can easily replace a standard light fixture.

Projects of the Week 09/28/24

This past week a fence job that we had lined up was postponed due to shipment delays, but that allowed me to service a couple of regular clients instead. I installed a new garage entry door the week before. This past week I built & installed a new step/landing in front of the door which also helps support the door threshold.

Another regular client of ours recently moved into a newly built home. She called me a few weeks back to disassemble a trampoline that I had assembled a couple years back when our company first started. This past week she had called me to reassemble the trampoline, which I will be doing soon, but first she asked me to assemble a new Pergola just out her back patio door.

Projects of the Week 09/21/24

This past week was full of many various tasks at a few different locations, and my Nephew has returned to assist for the next few weeks. I took a break from my client in Hermitage's siding and exterior trim project while she makes a few more decisions on materials and colors. Instead I engaged in a couple other tasks for her including a new exterior door on her garage, and then installed shiplap & trim above her fireplace mantle so she could display her guitar.

I also continued with the construction of a wall bump-out for my other client's new electric fireplace insert. I placed blocking behind the plywood for the future installation of her TV mount and wood mantle which will both be installed after the faux stone is installed over the plywood.

Then finally, my regular client Linda in Thompson Station called me back to hang more of her decorative items around the house that they recently moved into.

Projects of the Week 09/14/24

This past week I engaged in some smaller projects, and caught up on some accounting as well. One of the two major projects we worked on was the continuation of the cedar siding project that began the week before.  Cedar siding was added to a small section on the side of my client's porch eve. Her two posts were also wrapped in Western Cedar, then 1 x 4 Cedar trim was installed around the base of each one. Once the painting is complete, the trim around the upper posts will also be installed.

A past client called me in this past week to begin a framing project as well. She has plans for a fireplace insert surrounded by faux stone, and then a mantle above the new fireplace. After some wall patching, I framed in a new wall bump-out, and framed up a base for the new raised fireplace hearth. Next we will install plywood all around the framing that the faux stone will be adhered & fastened to.

Projects of the Week 09/07/24

A repeat past client of ours called me back to replace some old siding of hers that is almost 40 years old, and it showed. Before her roof was replaced about 15 years ago, her house sustained some water damage in various areas that had never been addressed, and this siding I replaced was one of those areas. As well as her new attic vent cover that my client did a great job painting. I'll also be working in other areas around the exterior that sustained water damage in the coming weeks. Mostly just trim and moldings.  This past week I engaged in a few smaller projects not pictured here as well. I also spent a day at my regular client's house in Thompson Station hanging decorative objects, and pictures that she hasn't been able to get around doing since her move a couple months ago.

Projects of the Week 08/31/24

This past week I was able to catch up some accounting & office work in the afternoons because it was far to hot to work outside at that time due to the heat wave. However, I managed to finish up Rickye's fence, and side gate working in the morning only. The plan was not to replace the fence post in the corner, but once I removed the old fence panels, we noticed a considerable amount of rot around the base of the post. I removed the old post and concrete, then set a double post. I used construction adhesive, and three 8 inch carriage bolts to put them together before I set them into concrete. I recessed the nuts and washers into the one side of the post, then cut the bolt flush with the post so no one would hit them as they walked through the opening. The 2nd post is for  when the neighbor re-installs a new gate on their side. Next week I'm, going back to clean up, and move off the job. At that time I'll cut off the tops of the new posts  I also stopped in at a regular client of mine in Franklin to install a new closet shelf for her rental property.

Projects of the Week 08/24/24

It was great having my Nephew Everett here for a few weeks to give me a hand with our client Rickye's backyard fence, but he flew out this past week to meet his Dad, sister, and family in Washington state.  Before Everett left, we finished the fence line up to the new gate opening, and had two sections following the gate opening as well. After he left I assembled & installed the new gate. Then I continued the fence line to the corner, and returned back up towards the house. I also hammered down stakes behind the new retaining wall for extra support. I have new projects starting up this upcoming week, but I should be finishing up Rickye's fence as well.  This past week Everett and I visited another regular client of ours to hang a new ceiling fan, and hung a couple other items, but we didn't get any photos.

Projects of the Week 08/17/24

Our client Rickye had his glass shower door and panel installed this past week. My Nephew Everett and I also took a day to do a little housekeeping, and rented a truck to haul off the old fence panels that we removed so far. As well as a pile of shrubs & branches that were in our way so we could continue the fence line. We discovered that a fluffy little Skunk had taken residence under the pile of old fence panels that we had already removed, and was under it the entire time we were loading up the truck. We also spotted a little rabbit poking around the pile earlier in the week.

Projects of the Week 08/10/24

This past week my Nephew Everett and I focused primarily on the Fence/Retaining Wall project, with no other projects going on. Due to the unusually high temperatures, we only worked in the morning hours through the week, and I was able to spend some personal time with him during his visit. He has been doing a great job assisting with moving dirt, installing the retaining wall, and is a natural with the nail gun that he used to nail up the fence boards. He would be a valuable asset to our company if he decides to eventually move to Tennessee.

We also poured concrete for the base that's going to support our client Rickye's new umbrella canopy.

Projects of the Week 08/03/24

This past week we took care of some details at the Master Bathroom  This past week I took some time off and explored the Smokey Mountains for a few days with my Nephew Everett, who also has started working with us when we returned. He recently had graduated after two years in the Job Corp where he was taught many trade skills, and he's ready to put those skills to good use on Rickye's fence project. The glass shower surround & door will be installed in another week or so.

Rickye finished up the paint in the master bathroom, and re-installed their toilet as well while I was on my mini-vacation.

Projects of the Week 07/27/24

This past week we took care of some details at the Master Bathroom project in Old Hickory, including new transitions into the closet, and bedroom from the bathroom. Rickye, the homeowner has been helping out with some of the wall painting, and I painted the doors to the toilet room and closet. Rickye plans to paint the barn door as well.

I also began Rickye's backyard fence/retaining wall project with the installation of 2 sections at the corner where Rickye had already installed the front facing section, and new gate last year.

I finished up the carport fence at Lisa's as well, and installed a new latch.

Loni, a relatively new client of ours called me out to replace outlets and switches throughout her entire home that she had recently purchased. Including a few GFI protected outlets like the one pictured. It turns out that she didn't buy enough to complete the task, so I'll be going back soon to finish that up.

Projects of the Week 07/20/24

Now that the large format porcelain tile has been installed, and grouted. It's now time to finish up all the trim and baseboards, and prepare them for paint. Ricky has been helping out as well by finishing up some of the caulking that I started, and painted one side of one of the doors. This coming week we should finish up all, or most of the painting including the walls, doors, and trim. I also installed the new vent fan and ducting in the toilet room as well.

I was able to get back over to my friend Lisa's place and put up the rest of the fence boards for her car port that we had. We are about still short about a dozen, and had to order more, so she should be all wrapped up soon. Thank goodness that she hasn't been in any rush to have it completed, and allowed me to work on it a little bit here and there.

This past week I also engaged in a few other smaller projects, and some are pictured here. I re-painted an exterior door (inside and out) for Midtown Loft in Nashville for The Verdei Group, and hung a few items for a regular client our ours in Thompson Station.
